The Daddy isn’t in his usual hiding place for this evening’s phone call, instead he is in the break room with a styrofoam cup of hot coffee in his hand.

Daughter: Daddy I learned a new song in choir, you want to hear it?

(She sings in a children’s choir at an Episcopal church back home)

Daddy: Of course!

Daughter: OK, it’s called “Dem Bones.”

She starts singing:

Dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones

Dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones

Blah blah blah blah God

Blah blah blah blah God

The Daddy is now laughing so hard that he is having trouble keeping the coffee in the cup. The daughter, understanding how much her Daddy is enjoying the song, keeps on singing:

Dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones

Dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones

Blah blah blah blah God

Blah blah blah blah God

At this point, the Daddy has put the coffee cup down and is in full convulsions. No one in the break room understands why he is delighted to the point of convulsive laughter.

The Daddy doesn’t care.

4/23/11 Update:

Ok, so I have some more information:

Tania found out that Boodle’s choir is only singing the “dem bones, dem dry bones” part and someone else is doing the “hear the word of the Lord/the foot bone connected to the ankle bone” part. Since she’s not responsible for that part, when she sang it for us it just became “blah blah blah blah God.” But she did tell her Mama, “I probably shouldn’t say ‘Blah blah blah blah God,’ because God is pretty important.”

Her Daddy still thinks it’s adorable and hilarious.
